Littleover Apiaries are jointly owned and run by Tony and Jan Spacey who have over many years carefully selected and now keep a pedigree strain of bees called the Buckfast / Cecropia. They are a calm, easy to handle and work with, but form prolific colonies ideally suited to the English conditions. Our hives are carefully moved around the counties of the East Midlands, Cambridgeshire and Yorkshire. This is to ensure the health and welfare of our bees, and also to make sure that the bees are in ideal positions to gather their harvest of pollens and nectar. At all times the health and welfare of our charges is of paramount importance. This is reflected in the quality and variety of our honeys and hive products. |

In 2004 we were appointed “accredited suppliers” to the “Guild of Fine Food Retailers” in recognition of the exceptional quality of our honey and hive products. We were also granted the “Peak District Environmental Quality Mark”, in recognition of the way we farm and benefit the environment of the Peak District National Park. In 2005 we entered the “Great Taste awards” for the first time. The Great taste awards are the most prestigious gourmet food awards in the UK, possibly the world. Organised by the Guild of fine Food Retailers, the awards have carved a reputation over the last decade as the acknowledged premier accreditation for all speciality food and drink. We are proud to announce that we entered both categories for Honey and “Have won Two Gold, One Silver and Two Bronze Medals.” In 2006 we were awarded the Taste Of Lincolnshire Mark and in the Great Taste Awards we have won a further four awards, bringing our total to eight Gold, Silver & Bronze awards. All of our honey and hive products are produced by our own bees in our own hives solely in the East Midlands, where we crop in the continental way, throughout the summer, rather than follow the usual practice of taking the crop only once or twice per year, which would then require heating and blending the honey before bottling. |
|
We specialise in single flower crop honeys and as a result all of our honey is cold extracted and filtered without additional heat. This is to protect and keep intact the natural enzymes and proteins, which make honey such a natural super food and to guarantee the honey reaches the consumer in the best possible condition. After which all processing and bottling is carried out in the traditional manner on our own premises. We do not use any additives, preservatives, blending or pasteurisation of any kind on any of our honeys. All of this is to ensure that our honey and hive products reach you in the time honoured way, which is “the way the bees intended”. Should there be any granulation visible then this is the very best of guarantees and shows the quality of the honey, (all good quality honey should granulate eventually). Should you prefer your honey clear and liquid; then just stand your jar in a warm place and it will return to its liquid form. |

We produce up to sixteen types of single flower crop honey and various other honey and wax products:
